Computational Thermal Systems Design Engineer

We’re looking for a talented computational physicist/engineer who isn’t afraid to dig into broad and sometimes ambiguous problems, thinks about systems holistically yet has the ability to effectively apply heuristics to cut through complexity to the core of a problem, cares about designing and optimizing real things that produce real world impacts, and is as passionate about energy technologies as we are!


What You'll Do

You will work directly with the CTO, Senior Product Engineer, Data Scientists and the Director of Controls Development on the following strategic initiatives:

  • Developing system level models with in-house tools or from the ground up to predict performance and to design novel vapor-compression cycle architectures.
  • Enhancing existing or developing new component level models to more accurately capture real-world performance.
  • Designing experimental test setups (DoE) and executing bench scale lab testing.
  • Analyzing operational or test data to characterize system performance.
  • Developing key insights to feed into early and later-stage product development.
  • Developing software tools that leverage performance modeling for sales, product development, project development and Refrigeration Battery® operations and maintenance.
  • Authoring white papers, grants, industry publications, seminar papers/presentations, etc.
  • Anything else necessary to help.

Who You Are

  • An enthusiastic self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and is passionate about technology innovation, the power of computational methods to deliver real world impact, and clean energy technologies.
  • Intelligent yet humble; enjoys being an engaged team player.
  • M.S. in engineering physics or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Python (Proficiency in Java additionally preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in thermal system analysis and design.
  • Strong predisposition for developing good code and using the processes and design patterns that enable it.
  • Experience with design of experiment (DoE) and validating computational results by real-world testing.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD parametric modeling.
  • Familiarity with basic manufacturing processes. Previous experience in a product manufacturing environment is a plus.
